Shami Iqbal is the chief people officer of Spencer Stuart and a member of the firm’s global leadership team. He is responsible for the firm’s global talent strategy, managing teams across human resources, learning and development, and talent acquisition. Shami is known as an inclusive and collaborative leader who is passionate about high performance cultures, employee engagement and professional excellence.

Leadership experience and expertise

  • Prior to becoming the CPO, Shami led the firm’s UK business through a period of significant headcount and revenue growth, as well as a relocation to a new flagship office in central London in 2024.
  • For over a decade, he also led the firm’s Legal, Compliance & Government Affairs Practice across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, working with a variety of colleagues and clients across the region.
  • Shami has led various internal and external diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives for the firm, and was recognized by the AESC as a recipient of their DEI Advocacy Award in 2022.
  • Before his career in executive search, Shami was a sports lawyer at a leading London law firm.

Shami graduated with a law degree from King's College London and completed his studies at The College of Law, before qualifying as a solicitor in England and Wales. He is fluent in Urdu. Shami is currently a member of the board of trustees at Tonbridge Grammar School for girls in Kent.
