Lucy Lopez is the chief legal officer, general counsel and corporate secretary of Spencer Stuart and a member of the firm’s global executive team. Based in New York, Lucy oversees all legal matters for the firm globally and leads the risk and sustainability functions. Lucy is an executive sponsor of the firm’s employee resource group for women. With more than 25 years of experience, Lucy is known as an experienced legal expert within professional services and a humble and collaborative leader.
A leader in the legal field for more than 25 years
- Lucy has more than 25 years of experience advising management and boards of directors on all aspects of international business and corporate law, including governance, acquisitions, joint ventures, debt financing, risk management, litigation and government investigations. She has worked through governance refreshment, leadership succession and legal department transformations.
- Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Lucy was deputy general counsel and head of legal for the Americas at McKinsey & Company, where she advised senior leadership on governance, geographic expansion, new service lines and risk management issues.
- Lucy started her legal career at Debevoise & Plimpton, an international law firm, where she was a corporate lawyer in the firm’s international and Latin America practice groups and focused on cross-border M&A and corporate finance transactions.
Lucy is a longstanding member of the board of trustees of Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City, a youth mentoring organization. She also has served on Congresswoman Nita Lowey’s Hispanic Advisory Council, and was recipient of the 2018 LatinoJustice Trailblazer award, given in honor of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. In 2014, Lucy was recognized by Mayor Bill de Blasio for her outstanding efforts to improve New York City’s communities in need. She is a frequent speaker at conferences and universities on subjects such as leadership and professional development, diversity, equity and inclusion, and legal department excellence. Lucy is passionate about serving the communities in which we live and work.
Lucy earned her J.D. at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and her B.S. from Fordham University, where she graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
