Marco Acerra is a member of Spencer Stuart’s Board, Financial Officer, Financial Services and Private Equity practices. Marco leads Spencer Stuart’s restructuring recruitment practice, focusing on recruiting directors and executives to companies in, or emerging from, financial distress. Marco has also recruited investment bankers, financial officers and investment professionals into a variety of senior roles in banks, corporations and private equity funds.
Extensive background in restructuring, corporate governance, corporate finance and M&A
- Marco has led several board rebuilds for companies emerging from bankruptcy, recruiting directors to new boards and advising creditor groups taking control of companies on board composition and selection.
- Marco’s primary areas of expertise include investment banking (sector coverage, M&A and capital markets), corporate development (M&A and strategy), and corporate finance (financial officer and treasury). He also has experience recruiting investment professionals to buy-side roles in private equity funds and hedge funds.
- Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Marco was a managing director in the Restructuring and Debt Advisory Group at Evercore. In this role, he advised both corporate clients and creditor committees on out-of-court restructurings, Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganizations and distressed financings. Prior to Evercore, Marco held positions of similar responsibility in the restructuring groups at Goldman Sachs and Houlihan Lokey in London.
Marco is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Italy and is a native speaker of Italian and English, fluent in French, and conversational in German. He has lived in the U.S. and the U.K., working across multiple geographies. Marco earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Princeton University and his MBA from Columbia Business School.
