Hugh Thorneycroft leads Spencer Stuart’s Industrial Practice in EMEA where he advises publicly and privately owned energy, industrial and infrastructure companies on CEO succession and senior executive and board appointments. He also sits on the firm’s Leadership Council with oversight of strategic planning and hiring. He previously led the Global Industrial Practice, co-founded the firm’s Infrastructure Practice, led the firm’s regional operations in EMEA for three years and was a member of Spencer Stuart’s Global Leadership Team. Prior to that he led the UK operations for five years.
Industry experience
- Since 2008 Hugh has conducted more than 300 assignments both in the UK and internationally including chair, CEO and C-suite roles for publicly and privately owned companies.
- Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Hugh worked at Marakon Associates, the strategy consultancy, working for clients across Europe in multiple sectors. The projects were grounded in “value-based management” disciplines and covered portfolio and business unit strategy, business planning, performance management, channel management, shared services, investor relations and organisation design.
- He spent his early career at ICI Chemicals & Polymers in the UK, working in a series of commercial roles before moving to Australia for three years where he ran the industrial markets business of the Orica Chemnet division.
Hugh graduated with honours from Durham University with a degree in history and earned an M.B.A. at IMD, the International Institute for Management Development, Switzerland.
