The Economist/
Spencer Stuart Ethics Award winner announced

The 2002 Ethics in Business award, organized by The Economist and Spencer Stuart, has gone to deputy chairman and CEO of Spanish fashion retailer Inditex (Zara), José María Castellano.

The Ethics Award jury headed by president José María Pujol, named Castellano their winner on the basis of his professional career; respect for ethical values; and his contribution to social welfare which has generated significant economic growth and employment in both the retail sector and the areas in which Inditex (Zara) operates.

Castellano chose the Fundacion Entreculturas, Fe y Alegria, an organization dedicated to the improvement of children’s living conditions, as recipient of the 12, 020 euro prize.

Spencer Stuart chairman Dayton Ogden and Flora Peña, representative of The Economist in Spain, presented the award to Castellano at a function hosted by Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar.
