Tom Daniels served on Spencer Stuart’s global board of directors for eight years and is a senior member of the firm’s Board, CEO, Financial Services, Financial Officer and Private Equity practices. He chaired the firm’s compensation and M&A committees and served on the audit, risk and client committees. He has been involved in executive search, succession planning, executive assessment, leadership development, top team effectiveness and board assignments for public and private multinationals, midcap, emerging growth, private equity and asset management firms. Tom has done extensive work with global standard-setting bodies, regulatory agencies and nonprofit entities. He is co-executive sponsor of the firm’s Asian, South Asian and Pacific Islander Employee Resource Group. He is a recipient of the firm’s Lou Rieger Quality Award and the AESC Commitment to the Community Award. He is also a certified executive coach.
Finance and governance experience
- Tom started his career with JPMorgan Chase, where he spent more than 20 years with client coverage responsibilities for global consumer product, diversified industrial and technology companies. He was a managing director and served as the senior banker responsible for investment banking recruiting.
- Tom is a former global chair of the Association of Executive Search Consultants (AESC), the global industry association for executive search and leadership consulting, and led the search committee to find the organization’s CEO.
- A regular speaker and panelist on leadership and governance issues, Tom has been quoted in a number of national publications and contributed to several articles.
- Tom also worked for the Intergovernmental Committee for Migration in Singapore and Indonesia, helping resettle Vietnamese refugees, and for the U.S. House of Representatives as a legislative assistant and congressional page.
A graduate of Dartmouth College with a bachelor’s degree with highest distinction in Asian studies, Tom also has an M.B.A. in finance from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and attended Beijing Normal University in the People’s Republic of China. He is a recipient of the Dartmouth Alumni Award and served on the Dartmouth Alumni Council, where he was on the executive committee and chaired the honorary degrees and nominating and alumni trustee search committees. He is a member of the Economic Club of New York, where he serves on the membership committee.
